Folic acid supplementation: too much of a good thing?

Morrow and colleagues1 report on the association of folate use and major malformations in women with epilepsy (see page 506).1 The data, derived from their prospective study of pregnancy outcomes in women with epilepsy, suggests that high dose folate supplementation provides no benefit for prevention of congenital malformations in offspring of women with epilepsy (WWE).
