Thrombolytic Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Octogenarians: MRI Selection Improves Safety but Does not Improve Efficacy Outcomes

        Abstract

        In the current issue of the Journal, Ringleb et al.(1) (see pages…..) report data on patients, either younger or older than 80 years, treated with systemic thrombolysis for an acute ischemic stroke. Interestingly, the group of octogenarians were analyzed with respect to the initial imaging modality (MR or CT). The overall rate of haemorrhage and improved efficacy outcomes was not statistically different in the two age groups and no significant difference was observed concerning the efficacy outcomes in MRI versus CT-patients.
