2024, Internet of Things (Netherlands)Compressed spike-triggered averaging in iterative decomposition of surface EMG
2023, Computer Methods and Programs in BiomedicineCitation Excerpt :The recording of electromyography (EMG) signals is a widely established technique used clinically to diagnose certain neuromuscular diseases [1], to control prosthetic devices [2] and in biomechanics [3].
Changes in motor unit bioelectrical activity recorded at two different sites in a muscle
2020, Neurophysiologie CliniqueCitation Excerpt :For multi-MUP analysis, a disposable concentric needle (37 mm, 26 G) was used with a band-pass filter setting of 5 Hz - 10 kHz and sensitivity of 100 μV/division [3]. The position of the needle electrode was determined where MUPs had the shortest rise time [3,22]. MUPs that had an amplitude of more than 50 μV and fired at least 5 times with an identical shape were selected for the analysis [3].
Sliding window averaging in normal and pathological motor unit action potential trains
2018, Clinical NeurophysiologyCitation Excerpt :Several pathological conditions related to neuropathies, particularly reinnervation processes, imply an irregular function of the action potential firing mechanism in the MU. Some of the fibres of the MU may not fire in a given MUAP (‘blocking’), or the firing time may be slightly desynchronized with respect to other fibres in the MU (‘jitter’) (Stålberg and Falck, 1997). These two phenomena give rise to MUAP trains in which the shapes of potentials can vary appreciably, even in the absence of secondary potentials or important levels of noise.
New features for scanned bioelectrical activity of motor unit in health and disease
2018, Biomedical Signal Processing and ControlCitation Excerpt :The amplitude is generally lower but it is occasionally possible to observe amplitudes close to a normal person. High amplitude MUPs can be rarely observed but their duration is shorter [3]. In a study conducted by Kugelberg in 1949, he proved that the number of peaks decreased in myopathic disease compared to neurogenic disease in the progressing stages of the disease [14].
