    For example, tuberomamillary histaminergic neurons are found to be significantly reduced in MSA but not in PD compared with controls (Nakamura et al., 1996). Clonidine challenge demonstrates significantly reduced growth hormone release in MSA subjects compared with PD subjects (Kimber et al., 1997), though the implications of this finding are unclear (Clarke et al., 1999; Lee et al., 2002; Strijks et al., 2002). An arginine challenge similarly demonstrates a reduced growth hormone release response in MSA compared with PD and controls (Pellecchia et al., 2006), again implicating suboptimal hypothalamic function in MSA.
