PIP: The formation of the Working Group on Reproductive Health within the framework of the Latin American Program for Population Activities (PROLAP) is intended to encourage systematic sharing of research and information between countries working in reproductive health in Latin America and the Caribbean. The purpose of the group is to integrate different national experiences using the preexisting network of the PROLAP centers. The Working Group is intended to stimulate reflection on theoretical and methodological issues concerning reproductive health in the region. Comparative studies focusing on the countries of the region will examine reproductive health issues such as the evolution of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, induced abortion, and the prevalence of surgical sterilization and other contraceptive methods, and will analyze social policy relevant to reproductive health. The program will guarantee dissemination of findings concerning reproductive health throughout the region. A regional seminar is planned to assess the status of studies of reproductive health in the different countries and to analyze and evaluate the theoretical and methodological tools used in them.
