Hemilingual paralysis caused by spontaneous carotid artery dissection

Abstract

Hypoglossal nerve dysfunction may result from compression or stretching by enlargement of the ipsilateral cervical carotid artery undergoing spontaneous dissection. Tongue paralysis associated with transient ischemia should localize the lesion to the neck.
