    Neurodegenerative diseases are a major global health burden in the Western world particularly with our ageing population. The World Health Organization (WHO) predict that by 2050 a staggering 30 million people will be affected by Alzheimer’s disease in Europe and the USA alone. Other diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, fronto-temporal dementia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also exert a great human toll on the affected individuals, their families, and society.
