Disorientation involves an egocentric spatial sphere, a representation of heading, a lack of landmark, and viable cognitive function agnosia (Aguirre and D׳Esposito, 1999; Asselena et al., 2005; Bottoni et al., 1990; Suzuki et al., 1998). Visitors rely on certain wayfinding tasks, which may be a stressful experience when people are in an unfamiliar environment (Hölscher et al., 2006).

In addition to Maguire and colleagues’ patient (2006) and the two patients presented by Van der Ham et al. (2010), further primary evidence for path-based navigation impairment is offered by seven case reports (Bottini et al., 1990; Hécaen et al., 1980; Hublet and Demeurisse, 1992; Katayama et al., 1999; Rusconi et al., 2008; Suzuki et al., 1998; Turriziani et al., 2003). Given that only very limited information was available about the navigation assessments of three further patients (Alemdar et al., 2008; patient 1 in Habib and Sirigu, 1987; Osawa et al., 2008), these reports are interpreted as probable evidence for path-based navigation impairment.
