2020, Dental Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :In a study of Dutch primary care patients, the incidence was 39.5 per 100,000 person-years. In an epidemiologic study conducted in Germany, Mueller and colleagues3–5 estimated the prevalence of AFP as 0.03%, whereas other studies suggested it can be more than 1%.6–12 This large discrepancy in estimates of incidence and prevalence is owing to the absence of clear diagnostic guidelines.

2013, Journal of the American Dental AssociationCitation Excerpt :Effective oral health maintenance may reduce the need for invasive dental treatments, with the added benefit of reducing the patient's risk of developing complications associated with NOP. When invasive procedures are required, it is of utmost importance for the dental team to recognize and understand these issues and to select the least invasive approaches to treatment.6,7 Although the case described here is of a patient with TN (episodic NOP), the treatment approaches discussed below are equally applicable to NOP that is continuous.
