Sleep and vigilance in corticobasal degeneration: a descriptive study

Neurophysiol Clin. 2007 Aug-Sep;37(4):261-4. doi: 10.1016/j.neucli.2007.05.002. Epub 2007 Jun 26.

Abstract

Introduction: Sleep disorders are common in extrapyramidal diseases, but have rarely been demonstrated in corticobasal degeneration (CBD).

Methods: Here, we describe sleep and vigilance in five consecutive patients with CBD.

Results: All five patients had insomnia, four displayed periodic limb movements during sleep (PLMS) and/or restless leg syndrome (RLS), and two had sleep respiratory disorders. None had REM sleep behaviour disorders or excessive daytime sleepiness.

Conclusions: Polysomnography is useful for diagnosing treatable sleep disorders in CBD.
